Artisan Craftsman is the passion project of my personal renaissance—a space where craftsmanship, creativity, and quality take the lead. After nearly three decades in tech and five years watching American craftsmanship give way to an influencer economy built on planned obsolescence, I’m finding real joy in creating things that last beyond the next upgrade cycle. What started as a DIY obsession has become a Zen pursuit: crafting furniture and home accents that blend timeless design with everyday function. Using natural materials, I build pieces meant to endure—each designed with care, precision, and a touch of old-world charm.
If you're looking for custom, handcrafted furniture built to stand the test of time—or need a creative mind to bring a unique home project to life—I’d love for us to chat. Whether you're here for inspiration, a custom piece, or just to see what’s possible, I’m glad you stopped by. Let’s make something incredible!
In 2013, I rekindled a high school love affair with woodworking when I built some cedar Adirondack furniture for the backyard. This came after a frustrating shopping experience—trying to find something of quality that didn’t break the bank, then realizing that finding quality at all, regardless of price, was a challenge. The project turned out to be deeply rewarding: time well spent, great feedback, and a high-quality product at a lower cost... plus the daydream of a timeless side hustle-slash-retirement gig. Classic DIY syndrome.
By late 2018, we had been mortgage-free for a year and decided to make the house our Forever Home—if we committed to the improvements we’d been discussing since buying the place in 2006. A few contractor bids forced me to dust off my old meditation practices and triggered my Calculator Reflex. Then, in a fit of sheer arrogance and with the blind support of the Fates (my wife, adult daughter, and MIL), I set off to Remodel The House.
Inside my head is part fantasy/steampunk novel; inside my wife’s, part romance novel/period drama—or as she calls them, costume movies. So when it came to defining a style, it’s no surprise we landed on Castle-y. Well... I said rustic, she said castle. I said she married the wrong guy for that—how about craft-manor? She said castle-y? I said, I’ll see what I can do. This is a fair summary of how our debates tend to go. In the end, we leaned toward the rustic: wood, stone, aged metals, stained woodwork, Victorian-style door hardware, and a warm, earthy color palette. The canvas? 1,285 finished square feet—hence Tiny Castle, in my HGTV-fueled delusion of grandeur.
The highlights of this journey are featured on the project pages, along with a little background on each. As of February 2025, we’re two minor projects and a few dangling participles away from finishing the interior. I estimate I’ve spent 50–60% of what it would have cost to hire contractors, and in the process, I’ve gained the tools, skills, and the satisfaction of custom upgrades built to our vision. The product pages showcase the results of many fulfilling days in the shop—and the undeniable joy of a job well done when the final piece is unveiled on install day.
So please, browse around the shop and drop your contact info if you'd like a replication of what you see here or have an idea you just can't get done in one of the big box stores!
