Tiny Castle Kitchen & Dining
2020 - My Response to COVID
After putting in hardwood floors upstairs and a set of custom oak stairs in the entryway in 2019, I bit off enough with the kitchen and dining room remodel I had to develop a number of skills to complete the project. This is the project we landed on 'Castle-y' as a theme for our decor and ultimately sparked the products you'll find in the shop on this site.
The trim, cabinet, and vanity are custom handmade from red oak lumber and veneer-core plywood, featuring soft-close doors and drawers, which also extend fully exposing box joins. The counters and backsplash are 1-1/8" Solarius granite. The floor is 1/2" slate in a Versailles/French pattern that started the "Castle-y" theme.
The door is steel with a dark oak finish, full length glass in an Augustine pattern with patina accents, and an integrated 4 point locking system. For hardware and accents, we used oil rubbed bronze and copper, which complement the existing fixtures throughout the home. This finish is carried through the sink, hood vent, light fixtures, faucet, switch plates, and cabinet hardware.
2025 Update: Between substandard installation on my part, followed by a water issue, the passion project we were able to live with had aged into a frustrating outstanding item. So this year we redid the floor and added the galley way with matching flooring.
